Ayser Salman

Ayser Salman

Ayser was born in Iraq but moved to Kentucky as a toddler.  She spent her childhood in the 1970s trying to fit in.  Since nobody had heard of Iraq yet, Ayser told everyone she hailed from Ohio and her name was ‘Casey.’
In her teens, Ayser reclaimed her birth name when job opportunities took the Salmans to Saudi Arabia.  Here she met others like her -- Middle Easterners who'd grown up in the States.  It was her first true taste of ‘diversity.’  It instilled in her a passion to hear stories of what makes people tick.  It is what led her to ultimately become a writer.

Thanks to programs like the PGA Diversity, Ayser now only uses ‘Casey’ when ordering a latte.
