It's been two years since HBO aired the final episode of The Wire. Critics praised the TV show for its realistic portrayal of drug culture and its far-reaching influence.

But now a handful of colleges across the country -- including Harvard, Duke and the University of California, Berkeley -- offer courses built around the show.
 

Robert Redford And New Mexico Launch Workshops For Minority Actors

Film New MexicoSANTA FE- Governor Bill Richardson today announced that applications will be accepted for audition workshops offered in locations around the state through the Milagro at Los Luceros initiative and the New Mexico Filmmakers Program. Native American, Hispanic, and African American residents of New Mexico who are interested in acting are encouraged to apply for the workshops, which will help participants develop the essential skills needed for casting calls.

Tonight Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Planet Terror) and his director, Nimrod Antal (Armored, Vacancy) presented an exclusive first look at their reboot of the "Predator" franchise. The Alamo Drafthouse on Sixth Street in Austin was at capacity and John Pierson (famed independent producer) and Chris Gore from Film Threat were just a some of the VIPs in attendance at Austin's hottest ticket.

Thank you for that nice introduction.  As old and presumably as experienced as I am I never hear such lovely words without thinking of my mother and wishing she could have heard them, too.  Of course I know what her response would have been.  I called her many years ago to tell her that the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was starting a Hall of Fame -- and that the first inductees would be Bill Paley, and General Sarnoff, Edward R. Murrow, Paddy Chayefsky, Milton Berle, Lucille Ball and me.  And my mother said -- “If that’s what they want to do, who am I to say?”
