Using "The Office" To Promote Acceptance In The Workplace

Steve Carell

The Office, a comedy about a jumble of oddball workers trying to get along in a claustrophobic environment, is a phenomenon of our times, a period when the American workforce is more diverse than it has ever been.

But what does the fictional office tell us about the national workplace? After all, not every office has a leader as bumbling and misguided as Michael Scott (Steve Carell), much less a "Do Not Mock" list or a policy on being "collar blind."

"Glee's" Openly Gay Star, Jane Lynch, Interviewed

Jane Lynch

It's 9am on the Paramount Studios set of US TV series Glee, and actor Jane Lynch has just been nominated for her first Golden Globe. One thing never changes in the beauty industry, however: an ounce of fat is a greater hurdle than a missing limb. “Rebecca’s disability didn’t cause me any problems,” a photographer says after shooting Rebecca, 27, a stunning brunette who was born with a deformed hip and wears a prosthetic leg. “It was just the fact she’s not really in shape. Most models are pretty toned, slimmer, more agile.”
